newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com In August, Medicine Hat’s downtown businesses with plans to spruce up their commercial spaces can apply for a maximum of $30,000 in funding and internet free loans through the City Centre Vibrancy Program. Applicants have the chance to receive a grant up to $15,000 funded by the city, as well as an interest-free loan up to the same amount, provided by Community Future Entre-Corp, and interest is covered by the city. Businesses must have their commercial spaces located within the defined city centre boundaries to be eligible for application. Upon approval, funding will be available for improvements that include facade upgrades, signage, lighting and accessibility enhancements, as well as other improvements that contribute to a more welcoming and vibrant city centre. “The City Centre Vibrancy program is a meaningful way we can help our downtown businesses. By supporting projects that enhance storefronts, activate public spaces and attract foot traffic, we’re investing in a more vibrant, welcoming and resilient city centre,” said Selena McLean-Moore, director of economic development. “These grants not only strengthen individual businesses but also contribute to the overall economic and social health of our community.” The city says applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and approval amounts will be subject to the remaining funds available in the City Centre Vibrancy Program. The city will begin accepting applications at 8 a.m. on Aug. 13. A full list of application requirements can be found online on the city’s website. Applications can be submitted by visiting the Medicine Hat Economic Development section. 9
