Young students aged 8-12 will be diving into a “comprehensive curriculum” of theatre arts during a summer drama camp taught by a well-known local speech and drama teacher and director.

Deborah Deans, who led TheActrics drama camp at Medicine Hat College for 25 years and has maintained an active private studio in that Hat for more than 40 years, will teach students drama, improvisational games and character studies, as well as staging techniques and vocal skills during two week-long camps.

Students will spend five days in the Esplanade Studio Theatre working with Deans and will showcase their new skills on the main stage during a final performance in front of a live audience.

The camps aim to provide youth with confidence and increase their teamwork skills, and are open to actors of all levels.

“Our program fosters a supportive environment where individual growth and collective collaboration thrive,” reads a release. “Join us for an unforgettable summer filled with laughter, learning and the magic of theatre.”

The first camp runs July 22-26 and the second runs Aug. 19-23. Each camp day will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost to attend a camp is $222, and registration is available at esplanade.ca.
