asmith@medicinehatnews.com City council has indicated a desire to limit development on an empty First Street lot to a maximum of two storeys. The motion made during the July 7 meeting directs administration to return with options to accomplish said restriction for 1064 First St. SW, following a notice of motion at the previous meeting. Previously, there had been discussion of taller developments, including two four-storey apartment buildings, which had been met with strong objections by members of the community of Harlow. While the request was initially to restrict the development to single-family residential with said height limit, there was concern from council in regards to this being too restrictive in regards to potential medium density development such as duplex or four-plex units. Other considerations included potential parking issues, but the primary focus of the motion was to ensure a height restriction on the development, and to ensure residents of the direction council wished to take on the matter. 7
