The Medicine Hat U11 Thunder Red were golden over the weekend at provincials.
The Thunder suffered just one loss on the weekend en route to gold.
They opened the weekend with an 11-7 win Friday over the Innisfail Hawks. Khloe Clark hit a two-run inside the park home run in the fifth inning, finishing with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Campbell Kletzel and Arya Johnson each scored twice, adding a hit and Presley Morrison had a pair of hits.
Leighton Moon started the game, recording four strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched. Morrison pitched the last three innings with seven strikeouts.
They beat the Sylvan Lake Storm 20-2 later in the day. Kayci Marshall had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kyler Geddes-Martin had an inside the park home run, finishing with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Morrison scored twice adding an RBI and a run scored, Casey Ristay had a pair of hits and run scored.
Harlyn Schimpf (two strikeouts), Morrison (three strikeouts) and Marshall (one strikeout) each pitched an inning.
The Thunder beat the Calgary West Hill Wild 11-7 to kick off play Saturday.
Johnson had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored, both Clark and Kletzel scored twice with a hit. All three of Marshall, Moon and Schimpf had a hit with an RBI and a run scored.
Moon started the game, working two innings with three strikeouts. Morrison worked two frames and Marshall finished the contest with two strikeouts in two innings.
The lone loss came Saturday, falling 14-5 to the U11 A Liners. Johnson had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored, both Marlee Collier and Clark scored and had a hit.
The U11 Thunder Red captured provincial gold with a 13-12 win Sunday over the St. Paul Storm.
Geddes-Martin hit her second home run of the weekend, with two RBIs and two runs scored as well in the win. Morrison had two hits and scored twice with an RBI, Marshall scored three times with two hits.
Schimpf started the game with an inning of work, Moon had a strikeout in her frame. Morrison pitched the last three innings with eight strikeouts.
The U11 Thunder Black were also in provincials action, capturing bronze in Grande Prairie.
They opened the weekend with a 17-16 win Friday over the Lloydminster Liners.
Alayna Giesbrecht had a home run as part of a five-RBI day, with three hits and three runs scored. Jaelie Varner scored three times and had a hit, both Macie Britton and Aphten Myram scored three times. Seven Benci had a hit with an RBI and a run scored.
Journey Kohls started the game, recording two strikeouts. Varner pitched the last 1.1 innings with four strikeouts.
They lost the first game Saturday in walk-off fashion, falling 15-14 to the Boyle Bandits. Myram had two RBIs and scored twice, with a hit. Giesbrecht had a hit with an RBI and a run scored, Harper Clark scored three times.
They beat the Grande Prairie Pirates 16-11 later in the day. Giesbrecht had two hits and two RBIs with a run scored, Kohls scored twice with a hit and an RBI. Both Scarlet Leahy and Ava Lanuk had a hit with an RBI and a run scored.
Clark started the game with a strikeout in two innings of work. Britton recorded two strikeouts in her two innings.
The Thunder lost 23-19 in their final game Saturday, falling to the U11 Lakers.
Clark had three hits with two RBIs and four runs scored, Alayna G had a home run, finishing with six RBIs, three hits and two runs scored. Britton scored three times with a pair of hits and a run scored, Benci scored three times and had a hit. Leahy had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored.
Varner started the game, with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Clark finished the game, recording five strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.
They captured bronze on Sunday with a 16-10 win over Manning.
Clark hit a home run, adding five RBIs and a pair of hits and runs scored, Geddes-Martin also had a home run, finishing with two RBIs, two hits and a run scored. Myram had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Britton had two RBIs and two runs scored with a hit.
Varner started the game, working 1.2 innings with three strikeouts. Clark finished the game with six strikeouts.
U13
The Medicine Hat U13 Thunder White had one game this weekend, beating Swift Current 21-8.
Arya Goulard scored three times, adding a hit and two RBIs. Lilah Vair had two hits and two RBIs with a run scored, both Emily Gergely and Kassidy Etienne scored four times, adding a hit. Emery Tuchscherer started the game, recording a strikeout in an inning of work. Etienne pitched 2.1 innings with six strikeouts and Madelyn Ulmer finished the game.
U15
The Medicine Hat U15 Thunder Red had three games this weekend, opening the slate with a 12-9 loss to the Swift Current Sonic.
Hayden Pidlisny scored twice with a hit and a run scored, both Audrey Scherer and Kianna Mastel scored twice with a hit. Emily Kleemola started the game, working three frames with two strikeouts. Avery Regehr worked two innings with four strikeouts.
They lost 24-11 to Kindersly later in the day. Emily Agar-Weninger had two hits and two runs scored, Farrer Campbell had a hit with an RBI and a run scored. Mastel scored twice with a hit. Regehr worked 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Nellie Campbell had 2.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts.
The U15 Thunder Red also faced the Moose Jaw Ice on Saturday, falling 13-3. Lia Hoffart had three hits with a run scored, Agar-Weninger had a hit and a run scored. Farren Campbell pitched three innings with two strikeouts. Mastel worked an inning and Kleemola pitched two innings with a strikeout.
U17
The Medicine Hat U17 Thunder Red picked up a pair of wins on the weekend over the SBR Rockies Div. 1.
They won the first game 9-7. Gracie Eddy had a home run, finishing with five RBIs, two hits and two runs scored, Sydney Thompson had two hits with two RBIs and a run scored. Charli Allinson had three hits with two runs scored. Adriene Campbell took the moudn to start with seven strikeouts in three innings of work. Taryn Brost there 3.2 innings with two strikeouts.
They beat the SBR Rockies 13-7 later in the day. Mackenzie Tindall had four hits with two runs scored and an RBI, Eddy had three hits with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tayler Sovran-Welte had a pair of RBIs, hits and runs scored, Thompson scored once and had two RBIs and two hits, Ryleigh Jackiw had two RBIs with a hit and a run scored.
Jackiw started the game on the mound with four strikeouts in four innings. Kendall Smith had a strikeout in an inning of work and Allie Evans had two strikeouts in two innings.
Southern Selects
The U17A Southern Selects were in tournament action over the weekend, picking up silver.
They opened the weekend with a 13-5 win over the U16 Havoc on Saturday. Lucy Moch had three RBIs with two hits and two runs scored, Gracie McNaughton had two RBIs with a hit. Molleigh Coombs scored three times adding two hits and two RBIs, Aviana Velichko scored three times with two hits. Alexis Collier started the game, working four innings with five strikeouts.
They edged past the Blue Jays with a 6-5 win later in the day, with a six-run third inning propelling them in the win. Moch had two RBIs with a single in the third. Maddy Ziegenhagel threw all four innings with two strikeouts.
In Sunday’s semifinal, they beat the Force Murdock 5-3 to clinch a spot in the gold medal game. Down early, the Selects broke through in the fourth inning behind a game-tying RBI double by McNaughton and a two-RBI double by Jessa Krauss. Collier threw all six innings.
The Selects lost the final game 11-0 to the U16 MT Freedom Brower. Collier and Ziegenhagel each threw two innings, both recording two strikeouts.
