The national weather forecaster says moderate temperatures are on the way, but reminds Hatters to be mindful of their health as the mercury remains well above 30 C today.

Environment Canada says residents of Medicine Hat may want to consider rescheduling today’s outdoor activities until Friday as the city remains under a heat warning, as residents and visitors may suffer from symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Individuals including parents of infants and children, seniors and those with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions are advised to pay particular attention to any symptoms.

“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” reads the heat warning.

Environment Canada advises people spending time outside or outdoor workers to take frequent breaks from the heat and drink plenty of water and non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.

Pets are not to be let inside vehicles for any length of time.

Today the forecaster is calling for sunny conditions throughout the day with temperatures reaching a high of 33C and a low of 13C in the evening.

However, beginning Friday and into the weekend temperatures are expected to hover around the mid 20s for a few days.
