Gas City Ball hockey hosts 4-day minor provincials this weekend

The province’s best amateur ball hockey talent is on display this weekend in Medicine Hat.

The Gas City Ball Hockey League is holding a four-day tournament that got underway Friday with 40 teams divided across four age divisions – U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18. Games are being played at both rinks at the Kinplex, the Moose Rec Centre and the Hockey Hounds Arena.

There are nine local teams playing, with two teams in each age division except for U15.

Round-robin action got started on Friday, continuing into Saturday and Sunday before the semifinals start Sunday afternoon. Provincial champions will be crowned on Sunday with ‘A’ and ‘B’ pool gold and bronze handed awarded throughout the day.

The ‘A’ gold games on Monday are played at the Kinplex, with U9 at 8 a.m., U13 at 9:45 a.m., U11 at 11:30 a.m., U15 at 1:15 p.m. and U18 at 3 p.m. The ‘B’ pool gold games will be held at the Kinplex, except four U9 gold which is at 9:45 a.m. at the Moose.

The other ‘B’ pool gold games, U11 at 8 a.m., U13 at 9:45 a.m., U15 at 1:15 p.m. and U18 at 3 p.m.
