The Medicine Hat Police Service welcomed three new officers to its ranks after they completed an intensive 24-week police training program held in collaboration with Medicine Hat College.

Additionally, the Blood Tribe Police Service welcomed one new officer who also graduated from the program that began in January.

The graduates, Const. Mackenzie Fritzler, Sct. Judah Knip and Const. Peter Neufeld with the MHPS, and Const. Braden Mann with the BTPS, were honoured during a ceremony held Friday afternoon at Patterson Armoury.

Throughout the police training program cadets received training in control tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, de-escalation and crisis management.

They were all provided in-class training at the college, including investigative skills, legal studies and report writing.

The college also provided student actors who were used to simulate real-life emergency scenarios.

Cadets were also provided training sessions that focused on mental health and community police and problem solving, which work to build trust and respect between officers and the community.

This marks the seventh police recruit training program held by the MHPS and the first held in partnership with MHC.
