Rogers shuts down Rangers and Holliday hits a three-run homer in Orioles’ win

By Canadian Press on June 23, 2025.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Trevor Rogers allowed three hits in a career-high eight innings in his home debut, Jackson Holliday hit a three-run homer and drove in the game’s first four runs and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 6-0 on Monday night with the game temperature reaching 100 degrees.

Rogers (1-0) made his third start and turned in the longest outing by an Oriole this season, throwing 72 of his 101 pitches for strikes. He struck out four and didn’t issue a walk.

Holliday’s run-scoring double followed Chadwick Tromp’s first hit with Baltimore, a two-out double in the third off Texas starter Patrick Corbin (4-7).

Coby Mayo and Cedric Mullins had consecutive one-out singles in the fifth and Holliday hit his ninth homer one out later, a 402-foot shot the opposite way to left-center field for a 4-0 lead. He finished 3 for 5 for his seventh three-hit game this season.

Corbin allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings.

REDS 6, YANKEES 1

CINCINNATI (AP) — Elly De La Cruz had three hits — including a home run — and drove in three runs as Cincinnati defeated New York.

Gavin Lux also went deep for the Reds, who have won their last two and 11 of 16.

Aaron Judge accounted for the Yankees lone run with his 28th home run of the season. Cody Bellinger added three hits.

It was only the second time in 14 games Yankees’ pitchers have allowed three or more earned runs. New York had come in with a 1.99 ERA since June 10.

Cincinnati grabbed the lead with three runs in the fourth inning. De La Cruz had an RBI triple over the head of Bellinger in center field to tie it at 1-1 before scoring the go-ahead run on Spencer Steer’s sacrifice fly. Gavin Lux followed with a solo shot to right off Yankees’ starter Allan Winans (0-1).

MARINERS 11, TWINS 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 32nd home run, one of four by Seattle n their victory over Minnesota.

Raleigh hit a two-run shot to left in the ninth inning off reliever Joey Wentz.

Julio Rodríguez and Luke Raley homered as part of a six-run third inning for Seattle. Dominic Canzone, who homered twice on Sunday, went deep again for the Mariners, while Bryan Woo (7-4) gave up two runs and struck out nine to win his second straight start.

Brooks Lee, Trevor Larnach and Carlos Correa each had two hits. Larnach and Correa hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning for Minnesota, which has lost 14 of its last 17.

Twins starter Bailey Ober (4-5) had just one bad inning, but it was rocky enough to be the difference in the game. He gave up six runs in the third, with a two-run homer by Rodríguez and Raley’s three-run shot doing most of the damage.

CARDINALS 8, CUBS 2

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Alec Burleson and Brendan Donovan each hit two-run homers in the fifth inning, Matthew Liberatore pitched seven strong innings, and St. Louis beat Chicago.

Lars Nootbaar and Nolan Gorman also homered as the Cardinals hit a season-best four home runs for the first time since April 30 at Cincinnati.

Liberatore (5-6) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five for the Cardinals, who have won six of their last seven games.

Ben Brown (4-6) allowed eight runs on nine hits in five innings for the Cubs, who have lost four of their last five.

BRAVES 3, METS 2

NEW YORK (AP) —Ronald Acuña Jr. homered, Spencer Schwellenbach pitched seven strong innings and Atlanta held off New York in the opener of a four-game series.

Michael Harris II and Sean Murphy each had an early sacrifice fly for the Braves, who beat starter Paul Blackburn (0-2) for the second time in six days and improved to 4-0 against the Mets this season.

Juan Soto hit a two-run homer that pulled the Mets within one, but he struck out against left-hander Dylan Lee with runners at the corners to end the eighth.

New York has dropped nine of 10, including a three-game sweep by its NL East rival in Atlanta last week.
