Woman arrested for assaulting police officer

Forty-six-year-old Flora Mona is facing several charges after confronting officers armed with a knife following a dispute that took place at a residence in Brooks on Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP attended the home shortly after 3:15 p.m. to locate Mona, who was wanted on warrants related to an assault and failure to attend court.

Upon arrival, Mona barricaded herself inside the home and refused to comply with police commands.

Shortly after the initial confrontation, officers obtained a warrant to enter the home and were confronted by Mona, who was armed with a knife.

Police were able to de-escalate the situation and arrest Mona without further incidents.

Mona has been charged with three counts of assault on a peace officer, obstruction and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, on top of her original charges.

Mona remains in police custody.
