Panthers lead Oilers 3-0 after two periods and are on the verge of repeating as Stanley Cup champs
By Canadian Press on June 17, 2025.
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Panthers took a 3-0 lead on the Edmonton Oilers into the third period of Game 6 of the final on Tuesday night and moved 20 minutes away from repeating as Stanley Cup champions.
Sam Reinhart scored a dazzling goal less than five minutes in, Matthew Tkachuk got one in the final minute of the first and Reinhart added his second of the game late in the second. Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner was done in by mistakes in front of him on the first two and made an inexplicable puck-handling mistake on the third.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all 20 shots he faced, and his teammates put on a clinic of defending and keeping Connor McDavid and the Oilers at bay throughout. The Panthers allowed very few quality scoring chances, locking down much like they did in Game 7 last year to clinch the first title in franchise history.
