American Legion Roundup: Majestics drop one then win two straight in Red Deer

The Medicine Hat Saamis Rotary Majestics picked up a pair of wins on the weekend.

The U15AA Majestics were in Red Deer for a trio of games, recording victories in the final games Sunday.

They lost their lone game on Saturday, falling 7-1 to the Webber Wildcats U15AA. Gavin Nardari recorded the lone RBI and Jace Berner scored.

Nardari started the game on the mound, working six innings with five strikeouts. Koby Brost pitched an inning to finish the game.

The Majestics responded with a 6-5, eighth-inning walk-off win Sunday over the Red Deer Budal Rangers.

Max Mook singled to right field in the bottom of the final frame, driving in a run from second base. Dylan Harnett led the offence on the day with a pair of home runs, finishing with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Gavin Russell also had two RBIs with a hit.

Bryce Lybbert started the game on the mound, working five innings with 10 strikeouts. Jake Czember pitched an inning and Kane Velichko worked two frames with two strikeouts, recording the win.

The Saamis Rotary Majestics finished the weekend with a 13-5 win over the U15AA Spitfires. They trailed the Spitfires 5-3 through four innings before scoring three times in the sixth and adding another six runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Lybbert had a pair of hits and run scored, Mason Opp, Russell and Dryden Eisenbarth each recorded a hit with two RBIs, with the first two scoring a run as well. Brost started the game on the mound, working 3.2 innings with five strikeouts. Velichko took over, recording three strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.

Knights

The Medicine Hat Knights of Columbus Knights had four games over the weekend.

The Knights opened the weekend with a 15-2 loss Saturday, falling in the first of two games to the Lethbridge Miners at Athletic Park.

Hudson Ma had a hit with an RBI, Ethan Bowey collected two hits and scored once. James Cole started the game, working 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Nixon Davis pitched 1.1 innings with two strikeouts and Isaac Stenhouse worked an out.

They were shutout 16-0 by Lethbridge later in the day, allowing 10 runs in the fourth inning.

Ryan Ziebart notched the Knights’ lone hit, also drawing a walk in the loss. He also started the game on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Ma entered the game and Ethan Grad took over, recording the final four outs.

The Knights lost in walk-off fashion in the first of two games Sunday, falling 6-5 to the Vauxhall Spurs.

They scored one run in the top of the seventh to tie the game up at 5-5 before Vauxhall called game in the bottom half of the frame. Ziebart had three hits, scoring once. Ethan Chenard scored three times, tallying a hit. Both Landon Cunningham and Grad had an RBI in the loss.

Jayden Mook started the game on the bump, recording a strikeout in 5.2 innings pitched. Bowey worked an out on the mound.

They lost the final game of the weekend, falling 12-2 to the Spurs.

Grad tallied a hit, RBI and a run scored in the loss. Cunningham scored once and had a hit and each of Chenard, Mook, Ryker Miller and Stenhouse had a hit. Bowey started the game on the mound, recording a strikeout in three innings of work. Cunningham and Miller each threw an inning with the latter recording a strikeout.

Monarchs

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs had a four pack of games against the Great Falls Chargers on the road this weekend.

They lost the first game of the weekend, falling 12-9 to the Great Falls Chargers on Saturday.

Pryce Velichko had two hits with two RBIs, both Matt Getz and Dylan Amundson each scored twice, both adding a hit and an RBI. David Padlisny scored twice and had two hits, Mason Heintz had two hits and scored once and both Asha Frey and Kaleb Bozek scored and had a hit.

Bozek started the game, working 4.1 innings with five strikeouts. Frey pitched an inning and Cade Moch recorded two outs, one being a strikeout.

They lost 3-1 to Great Falls later in the day. Amundson had two hits, Pidlisny scored and had a hit. Aayden Anderson started the game, working five innings with five strikeouts. Cole Carlson recorded a strikeout in his inning of work.

The Monarchs faced Great Falls for a pair of games on Sunday, losing the first game 9-8. Medicine Hat scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning, falling just short of the comeback.

Getz had a pair of RBIs and a hit, Heintz scored twice and had a hit, Moch scored twice adding a hit and an RBI and Nixon Kunkel had a pair of hits, adding an RBI and a run scored. Both Pidlisny and Wade Davies scored a run with a hit and an RBI. Much started the game, recording two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work. Carlson pitched 1.2 frames, with one strikeout. Velichko finished the game, pitching three innings with two strikeouts.

The Monarchs scored three unanswered runs between the fourth and fifth innings later in the day, finishing the weekend with a 5-5 draw against the Chargers.

Davies had a pair of hits, Bozek had a hit and an RBI and Velichko scored and added a hit. Kunkel started the game, recording two strikeouts in two innings of work. Heintz also recorded two strikeouts in two innings of work. Parker Hunter threw two frames and Davies pitched an inning to finish the game.
