RCMP have released a CCTV image of a suspect wanted for stealing a silver 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup on Monday, and are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the thief.
Police received a report of the stolen vehicle just before 10:15 a.m. on June 9, taken from the owner’s driveway at a home located in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue in Bassano.
Image details are hard to distinguish in security footage, but a suspect with a hefty build can be seen wearing a red shirt, black pants and a black balaclava.
Police say the suspect was dropped off by another person driving a blue 2008 Ford F-350 crew cab, believed to be a vehicle stolen from Bow Island earlier this week.
RCMP have also released a public service announcement reminding residents to ensure vehicles are locked when not attending and no keys are left within the vehicle.
“Four of the last four vehicles stolen from Bassano had been stolen with the keys,” reads the statement. “This is one of the best deterrents to auto theft.”
Officers are asking anyone with information on the suspects and stolen vehicles to contact the Bassano detachment at 403-641-3677, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Speeding
Brooks RCMP on June 6 took immediate enforcement action against the driver of a red Nissan GTR who was observed travelling at 170 km/h on the Trans-Canada.
Police say the driver was clocked around 12:30 p.m. that day, and was stopped and enforcement action was taken on the driver.
In Alberta, excessive speeding is travelling more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit, and carries a mandatory court appearance and fines that can reach a maximum penalty of $2,000, as well as a possible licence suspension.
Check stop
Three divers, or one per cent, of out 300 checked during a roadside check stop following the Newell Pro Rodeo received a three-day license suspension and had vehicles towed.
RCMP say one driver also registered a “caution” reading on an Approved Screening Device.
Overall, police say they would like to commence motorists and the community for “making safe and responsible choices.”
