@MedicineHatNews The region’s chamber of commerce has been named the Chamber of the Year in the province for 2024, a year that saw it expand from Medicine Hat to include Brooks and several other areas. The Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce expanded to include eight municipalities and gained 160 members in the amalgamation. The business group hosted the Alberta Chambers’ annual general meeting in Medicine Hat last month, and was recognized as the top performer among chambers with more than 500 members. “This award is a testament to the strength of our members, the dedication of our team and the power of regional partnerships,” said Steven Pudwell, president of the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce. “We’re honoured to be recognized for the work we’ve done together to build a stronger, more connected business community.” Figures presented by the local chamber stated it hosted more than 100 events in 2024, including the launch of a new trade show in Brooks to match one in Medicine Hat. Officials also led 26 advocacy events, passed 27 policy resolutions and topped 70 meetings with government officials. “This recognition isn’t just about what we’ve accomplished – it’s about where we’re going,” said executive director Lisa Dressler. “We’re committed to continuing this momentum, advocating for our members and creating opportunities that drive economic growth across the region.” 9
