asmith@medicinehatnews.com Cypress County looks to continue to improve its regional emergency management plan, alongside Redcliff and the City of Medicine Hat. A motion was passed Tuesday at county council to approve an available grant funding opportunity to update the Regional Emergency Management Plan. Incident management components such as resource sharing, communication channels and pre-plans for various hazard scenarios are described in the plan. It was noted that the current plan, which helps to direct how a disaster is managed in the event it affects two or more municipalities, was last updated in 2020. Due to significant changes to provincial legislation over the past five years, the plan requires a major update. The Alberta Community Partnerships Program has a $125,000 grant immediately available, which would help to update the plan and to enact a regional emergency exercise. Input will be taken from all three municipalities to ensure the updated plan will serve the region as a whole. 7
