ALLEN REUER

1934 ~ ALLEN REUER ~ 2025
Allen Reuer of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of Doreen Reuer, passed away on Sunday, May 11th, 2025, at the age of 90 years at St. Joseph’s Hospice. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years (August 6), Doreen. He is also lovingly remembered by his children, Gail Lantz, Arlene Reuer (Ellison Smith), Darrell Reuer, and Pam Ehret; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Harvey (Hazel) Reuer; sister, Rita (LaVerne) Roth; brothers-in-law, Alvin Schneider, Howard (Shirley) Schneider; Gerald (Marilyn) Schneider; Godchild, Rena Roth, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Allen was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary Reuer; in-laws, Andrew and Amelia Schneider; brother, Norman Reuer; and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Violet Fischer.
Allen was born on September 1, 1934, at his grandparents’ house in Hilda, Alberta, to parents Fred and Mary Reuer. He was the oldest of four children; Norman, Harvey, and Rita followed. He grew up on the family farm, attended Echodale and Maple Tree schools up to Grade 7, and then helped at home on the farm.
He married Doreen Schneider on August 6, 1955. Following their marriage, Allen farmed with his dad. After two years, they purchased and moved to his maternal grandparents (March) homestead in the Hilda area, continuing to farm with his dad for a few more years. Allen, along with Doreen, farmed and raised their four children through good and bad crop years. The years when it was difficult to make ends meet, Allen worked at various jobs to pay the bills. Although at times, things were tough, farming and country living were always enjoyed. Allen’s passion was farming, which he did with a great deal of precision and pride. At the age of 65, he retired and rented out his farmland. They continued to live on the farm, enjoying life without all the work. After moving to the city in 2010, Allen and Doreen regularly visited the farm, always interested in the crops and happenings.
Allen was community-minded, volunteering many years in the Hilda Community and in their new community of Park Meadows Estates, when they moved to the city. Their choice of purchasing in this new community proved to be a good one, still the small community feel, making new friends, and attending community activities. Allen and Doreen enjoyed traveling to various destinations, the highlights being Europe and a European River Cruise. During their younger years and into retirement, they liked to camp and fish with family and friends, the longest trip being to Alaska. They met regularly with their long-time friends and family during their retirement years. He was fond of visits from children and grandchildren, and they were always appreciated. Allen enjoyed golfing for several years after retiring, and then he took up playing pool, almost daily, at their clubhouse, which he very much enjoyed.
“I had a good life”, was a phrase he shared often during his last hospital/hospice stay. Thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for the exceptional care during Allen’s final days.
The Memorial Service will be held at Victory Lutheran Church, 2793 Southview Drive SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Monday, May 19th, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Shane Hein officiating. If unable to attend, family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by going to http://www.victorylutheran.ca/livestream and joining the live webcast at the above date and time. LILLIAN HUNT

LILLIAN HUNT July 7, 1930 ~ May 16, 2025
Lillian Elsie Hunt (nee Kobberstad) was born with her twin brother, Lloyd, on July 7, 1930 in Richmound, Saskatchewan. She came into the world as a feisty little three and a half pound baby and that spirited attitude continued throughout her life. Lillian was raised on the Kobberstad family farm with her 9 siblings. In the middle of the prairie, Lillian transformed the yard with rock gardens and a lily pond; she was an extraordinary gardener. Lillian also cooked for many ensuring there was always extra for unexpected guests, she sewed clothes and costumes for the kids and took great pride in her home. In an unexpected twist of fate, Doug died tragically in 1970. Unable to maintain the ranch alone with six children, Lillian relocated to town and started her very successful Charlie Brown Nursery School. Her ingenuity and resourcefulness allowed her to support herself and the kids while being at home as the youngest children were only five years old.
Several years later, Lillian married Bernard Smith but was again widowed in 1980. She continued the nursery school and married Allan Hunt in 1984. Lillian was always industrious and expressed her creativity through painting, rose malling (Norwegian painting), stitching Norwegian clothing and doilies, was an active member of Sons of Norway and Horticultural Society and spent countless hours gardening. Many hours were spent starting her own seedlings, continuously changing and improving her yard which was featured in Our Canada magazine, and entertaining family and friends on her patio. Lillian loved Christmas; every room was creatively decorated for the season. Lillian’s penchant for flower gardening and Christmas resulted in several garden tours and house tours to raise funds for charity. Lillian’s door was always open to anyone that wanted to enjoy her yard or drop in for coffee and sweets. Mom was an avid dancer and over the years became a big fan of Johnny Reid. It was not uncommon to arrive at her door and find her dancing with the aid of her walker. She and the family continued to have dance parties right up until the recent months.
Lillian loved family and the ever growing family get togethers. She was her grandchildren’s greatest cheerleader and looked forward to meeting and holding each new great-grandchild.
Lillian is lovingly remembered by her children: Sandra (Garry) Luna, Debra (Philip) Morgan, Clayton (Barbara) Davison, Cindy (Garnet) Amundson, Tamara (Lee) Little and Tracey (Terry) Canham; 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Courtney, Dustin, Landon, Alexandra, Hayden, Logan, Morgan, Chandler, Brian and Maya; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Morrison as well as many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. As one of the grandchildren said, “Grandma is such a personality and so important to everyone that it’s hard to imagine her going anywhere even if she’s physically not with us.” That sums it up. She will be forever loved, remembered and always missed.
Lillian’s family want to extend a very special thank you to Ellen, Juliet and Marilou for the extraordinary round the clock care and love for our mom you became a part of our family and treated Mom like your own. Thanks to Linda for spending time with Mom creating seasonal crafts and gifts for friends and family. We are grateful for Nitsa and Kim who became an integral and valued part of Mom’s daily routine. The family also extends gratitude to the staff at St Joseph’s Home for their compassionate care and support for our mom and our family. We are so grateful for Mom’s sphere of support and love.
Private burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery on Monday, May 19, 2025. A celebration of Lillian’s life will be held in her backyard on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to come and celebrate Lillian and enjoy her garden one more time.
