National Paramedic Services Week kicks off Sunday, and residents are encouraged to take a moment to thank those who will be there when they’re needed most.

The week’s national theme this year is We Care. For Everyone.

“Paramedics play an integral role in serving the public. This week is about taking time to celebrate these highly skilled professionals and better understand the importance of EMS within our health-care system and our communities,” said Alberta Health Services in a statement.

AHS expressed gratitude to all paramedics and EMS workers for the vital support they provide to all Albertans, but also to each other. AHS says EMS is an essential component to Alberta’s health-care system, and the work paramedics do for Albertans is valued.

Those interested in participating in National Paramedic Services Week can learn more about EMS as ahs.ca/ems, or pay tribute via thankaparamedic.com, which allows Albertans to leave a note thanking the first responders for their work.

In addition, there will be an event Sunday at Medicine Hat Mall from noon to 4 p.m. EMS vehicles and equipment will be on display and EMS paramedics will be sharing information on community safety, as well as information on how to become a paramedic.

The public is invited to come out and gain a better understanding of the importance of EMS within the health-care system and Alberta’s communities.
