Lloydminster has lost its local television station after 65 years in service.

CKSA and CITL went off the air on May 13, owner Stingray Digital announced, citing “deteriorating” business conditions over the last six years.

“Despite cost-containment strategies, the expense of producing local television in a market the size of Lloydminster has resulted in significant losses, making the continued operation of the Lloydminster TV stations unsustainable,” stated Stingray in a statement.

“The company is deeply invested in these communities and believes strongly in the short- and long-term viability of small-market radio.”

The company operates two radio stations in Lloydminster and several others in the region east of Edmonton.

The TV station went on the air in 1960 and was a CBC affiliate while owned by NewCap, then switched to Global in 2019 and lastly, City-TV.
