Medicine Hat Public School Division is accepting 56 students to participate in the Introduction to the Trades Dual Credit Program next school year.

The program allows students to receive hands-on experience in several in-demand trades jobs, including heavy equipment technician, plumber, electrician and welder.

Students will participate in both online and knowledge-based work that includes a hands-on component to develop key skills in each specific trade.

This fall the division has partnered with Lethbridge Polytechnic to host students during lab sessions, and MHPSD says it will be able to provide students transportation if needed.

Students will be enrolled in either the fall semester or winter semester depending on selections.

The division will also pay all tuition and material costs for successful applicants, however students will need to provide their own PPE, including overalls, steel-toed boots, hardhats and safety glasses.

Students who successfully complete the course will earn five Grade 12-level credits, as well as three Lethbridge Polytechnic post-secondary credits.

An application form can be found online by visiting the MHPSD website and clicking the “Division News” tab. Deadline for applications is June 6.
