Brooks Farmers Market has big plans for opening day

The Brooks Farmers Market will launch its largest opening day on June 7 with a street fair following the parade that opens rodeo weekend in that city.

The “Kickoff Market” will take over the route from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. after floats and entries pass through the city centre.

Organizers are promising live music and a rodeo theme alongside traditional offerings.

“Every season we build on what came before,” said farmer’s market manager Roxanne Ross.

The Brooks farmers market runs on Thursday afternoon from June to September with a Saturday market once per month.

The Medicine Hat farmer’s market opens for the season on May 17 at the Cypress Centre on the Medicine Hat Stampede grounds.

Choppers in region

Power line operator AltaLink says it will begin aerial inspections of its lines across the province next week, including on the network in southeast Alberta.

Patrols are expected to begin Monday, May 12 and end May 15, weather permitting, to survey vegetation and visually inspect lines and towers.

Helicopters will fly from 14 communities, including Medicine Hat, Brooks, Taber and communities around Lethbridge.
