JIM HINTZ
JIM HINTZ July 14, 1951 ~ April 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Peter Hintz, who left us peacefully on April 24, 2025, in his home and surrounded by family. Born on July 14, 1951, Jim lived a full and vibrant life, marked by love, laughter, and cherished memories.
James married the love of his life, Carol Elaine Bennett, on September 1, 1973. Together, they built a strong and loving family that will carry on his legacy. He was a proud father to four wonderful children and especially delighted to be a grandfather to his two beloved granddaughters: Jason (Carrie: Ronin and Ryder), and daughter Taylor (Colton), Aaron and daughter Areya, Carmen (Andrew), and Derek (Devon). He also embraced his role as a grandfather to a grand-bunny and six grand-puppies, whom he affectionately tolerated.
Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Genevieve (Deck), as well as his treasured siblings Kathy and Bob; James is survived by his devoted sister, Audrey (Pete), who shared countless joyful moments throughout the years. Many nieces and nephews and “adopted” family members will forever remember his laughter and light.
Jim had an unwavering spirit and a zest for life that was evident in his many passions. He was a loyal fan of his Tigers and the Montreal Canadians and could often be found cheering for his teams with friends and family especially when they were beating the Oilers. His love for snooker and kayaking reflected his adventurous spirit, while riding bikes brought him closer to nature and his loved ones.
Spending time with family and friends was paramount to Jimbo, and he treasured every barbeque, camping trip, and gathering filled with laughter and faith, as long as you walked quietly and laughed with your inside voice. His infectious smile and warm heart touched everyone he met, creating a legacy of kindness and love that will not be forgotten.
Central to Jim’s life was his deep and abiding faith in God, which led him through life’s challenges and triumphs and ultimately guided him home. Through his actions and words, he reflected the love and compassion that his faith inspired within him. Jim’s involvement with his men’s group, That Man is You and his connection to Holy Family Parish, gave him the support and guidance that he held close for his final journey.
As we celebrate the life of James Peter Hintz, we take comfort in the many beautiful memories he has gifted us. May his spirit continue to inspire us to embrace life fully, cherish our loved ones, and create lasting memories together. Rest in peace, Daddy-o. You will be profoundly missed but always remembered.
Prayers and memories will be shared at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:50 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall. HELEN MCLELLAN
HELEN MCLELLAN May 3,1926 ~ April 28, 2025
One week from her 99th birthday, our cherished mom went on her way to the Father in heaven on April 28, 2025. Born May 3, 1926, in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, she grew up in the rolling hills of the Bench south of Gull Lake on her father’s homestead. Medicine Hat became her permanent home where she married John Wesley “Wes” and together they adopted nine children. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Elaine and Heather; and sons, Tim, Kelly, and Bruce (Michelle); along with six grandchildren, (Trystin (Danika), Michael, Rae Ann, Chelsea, Alana, and Brooke; and three great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Wesley, and Gabriel; as well as many cherished and deeply loved nieces, nephews, parish community, friends, and extended family. Her husband, John Wesley “Wes,” and four of her children, Karen, Jo-Anne (Babcook), Daryl (Leiah), and Kevin, predeceased Helen. Mom trained at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan, becoming a registered nurse, working in hospitals off and on through her life. When she wasn’t nursing, she took in many children while raising her six, then nine children. She actively took part in her parish community, leading some committees and volunteering for many activities. Rarely seen without a rosary or a prayer book, or tattered prayer cards, her faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit filled her life. Thank you to all the staff at South Country Village for the outstanding support and care of our mother. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 7:00 pm. Public viewing will be one hour before Vigil Rites from 6:00 pm 6:55 pm.
