Registration is nearing a close for the Rattler Run.
The 46th annual run around Medicine Hat College is Saturday with registration for the 3 km, 5 km and 10 km races open until Thursday.
Race director and Rattlers cross-country coach Bill Corcoran says they’re excited to kick off the spring as usual.
“The temperature looks good, I’m really excited about that, it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be too windy,” Corcoran said. “So it should be a fast day and if you’re not running fast, it should be a comfortable day.”
The Rattler Run, featuring one of the longest running 10 km races in Alberta, is nearing 500 participants signed up for the three runs. Participants will see kids from Dr. Ken Sauer School and Parkside School running in the 3 km race.
They have tweaked the course, removing some of the “twists and turns,” making for a straighter finish at the main door of the college.
Corcoran says the day will see the usual return of Rattlers alum to tackle the college course. The run will see former Rattlers Chris Jonker and Quinn Alderson return, Jonker recently broke 34 minutes at 10 km and Alderson scorched the 5 km, breaking 16 minutes. On the women’s side, Rattler Maddie Scrimger is coming off a strong third season in the yellow and black, and Becky Ross, former Rattler Runner, will also be tackling the 10 km.
That 10 km run gets underway at 10:30 a.m with the 5 km race starting 10 minutes later and the 3 km ‘fun run’ going at 10:50 a.m. Award ceremonies for all three races will take place around 20-30 minted following the final finisher of each race.
Anyone interested in signing up can do so online via the Medicine Hat College wesbite or by searching ‘Rattler Run 2025’.
For those who have already registered, bib pickup is Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the college or, if needed, there’s limited pickup Saturday between 9-10 a.m.
