OHL playoffs: Aitcheson helps Colts beat Frontenacs 6-4 in Game 7 showdown

BARRIE — Kashawn Aitcheson scored twice and added an assist as the Barrie Colts edged the visiting Kingston Frontenacs 6-4 in a Game 7, second-round Ontario Hockey League playoff showdown on Tuesday night at Sadlon Arena.

Emil Hemming, Owen Van Steensel, Tristan Bertucci and Beau Jelsma also scored for the Colts, who trailed 3-2 after the first period before scoring three unanswered goals. Dalyn Wakely chipped in with three assists, while Hemming had a pair of helpers.

Emil Pieniniemi scored twice for the Frontenacs, who were outshot 46-28. Cal Uens and Kieren Dervin netted singles. Gage Heyes had two assists.

Colts’ goaltender Sam Hillebrandt stopped 24 shots, while Frontenacs netminder Charlie Schenkel made 40 saves.

The Colts went 3-for-5 on the power play, while the Frontenacs were 1-for-2.

The Frontenacs won Sunday’s Game 6 in the best-of-seven series 3-2 in overtime to force the winner-take-all contest.

The Colts advance to the Eastern Conference final and will face the Oshawa Generals, who beat the Brantford Bulldogs in six games.

Carter Hicks scored for the Spitfires, who outshot the visitors 40-32.

The Rangers led 1-0 after the first period and the teams were tied 1-1 heading into the third.

Rangers’ netminder Jackson Parsons made 39 saves, while Spitfires’ goaltender Joey Costanzo stopped 30 shots.

The Rangers advance to the Western Conference final, where they’ll play the London Knights, who swept their series with the Erie Otters.
