@MedicineHatNews A Medicine Hat man facing charges that he attempted to murder four police officers during a standoff last summer will have a trial date potentially set next week. Cole Anthony Scory was charged in August 2024 and has since been held in the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatric Centre while reports on his mental fitness to participate in a trial and whether he could be found criminally responsible were prepared. On Thursday, an agent for Scory’s attorney Darcy Schurtz told at Court of Justice in Medicine Hat that the preference is to proceed at the lower Court of Justice level. A pre-trial conference would likely be required, and will be fixed by court management office and be presented to court on April 22. Medicine Hat police say that on July 27, 2024 officers responded to a report of a gunshot at an apartment block on the Southwest Hill and were injured while standing at the building’s entrance when another shot was fired from within a suite. Scory faces four counts of attempted murder, single counts of unlawful use of a firearm, intent to injure, discharging a firearm, possessing a firearm with out a licence, assault with a dangerous weapon and two count of pointing a firearm. 7
