Medicine Hat 911 dispatchers will now follow the flights of HALO Air Ambulance by monitoring the real-time location, flight status and environmental conditions of the helicopter during responses in a new collaboration announced Monday.
As HALO’s official flight-following team, local dispatchers will help ensure every mission is tracked in real time, providing oversight that prioritizes swift action and safety.
“Working with HALO allows us to extend our dispatch capabilities to the skies and guarantee crews are supported throughout their missions,” says Stacy Smither, 911 superintendent. “It’s a significant responsibility and reflects our commitment to public safety.”
According to HALO the support will allow first responders to better adapt to any unforeseen issues during a mission.
“This collaboration significantly strengthens our ability to respond effectively to the diverse calls we receive,” says HALO CEO Paul Carolan. “From emergency medical scene calls to critical care inter-facility transfers, to fire rescue missions, having a dedicated flight-following team ensures our crews are monitored and safe at all times.”
This week dispatchers around the country are being thanked for their service during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
