newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Public Library is reminding users of its ongoing Food for Fines charity campaign that allows users to pay off overdue fines with non-perishable food items that will be donated to the local food bank. Each Thursday the library will accept up to 10 non-perishable food items with each item valued for $2 reduction on fees, up to a maximum of $20. Items collected each Thursday are sent to the Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub to support ongoing efforts to make sure no Hatter goes hungry. Items that the food bank is constantly restocking include canned vegetables, canned soup, canned meat, cereal, dry pasta, sauce, peanut butter, jam and rice. Fines can be paid with food each Thursday between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 7
