A track maintenance foreman on the Maple Creek subdivision has been named the CPKC “Railroader of the Year.”

The railroad announced the internal company distinction on Friday, naming Swift Current-based Brett Reynolds.

Reynolds has 36 years of service with CPKC working on the Maple Creek subdivision, which comprises track between Swift Current and Medicine Hat.

Brooks solar pause

A planned hearing toward building a utility scale solar farm inside Brooks city limits could be postponed as the developer seeks three months to update some parts of the proposal.

The Salt Flats solar project is planned to produce a maximum 18 megawatts on a section of land on the west side of Brooks. The developer argues the land is alkylamine soil and the city has said it too costly to service for housing.

The applicant, Pathfinder Clean Energy, PACE, has requested that the Alberta Utilities Commission put the project into temporary abeyance as it says it is updating layout and visual impact assessment.

About 100 residents registered to oppose the project and take part in the virtual hearing set to begin on April 14.
