newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Public School Division has released more information on its upcoming information session for families of current Grade 9-12 students interested in enrolling in dual credit and work experience programs. Next Thursday the division is hosting a two-hour session sharing opportunities for students looking into programs that provide career experience while gaining school credits. The session will overview several opportunities within MHPSD, including work experience credits and the Registered Apprenticeship Program, known as RAP. Additionally, families can learn about alternate credits for students involved in extracurricular certifications that include lifeguard, ski instructor, cadets and firearms training. MHPSD will also highlight programs available with the Green Certificate, aimed at providing students an opportunity to explore areas of interest within the agriculture sector, and earn up to 16 credits toward a high school diploma. The division will also showcase a collaboration with the BILD Medicine Hat Association that opens career pathways to students interested in working within the construction trades sector, and focuses pairing students for internships with working trades people. Grade 9 students can get a jump start by earning high school credits in the summer before Grade 10, with four courses designed to earn credits while working or volunteering throughout the summer. MHPSD also offers an Introduction to the Trades program in collaboration with Medicine Hat College designed to introduce students to multiple areas of the skilled trades in a college environment. Students entering grade 11 have the opportunity to enrol in a nine-course certification health-care aide program. Additionally the division offers a five-course certification program for a veterinary technical assistant in collaboration with Olds College. The information session, which will include a panel of students sharing personal experience, begins at 6 p.m. April 10 in the main hub of Medicine Hat High School. 12
