April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, and the people behind Movember are encouraging residents who have them to “know thy nuts.”

While most Canadian men, roughly 75 per cent, are unaware of the fact, testicular cancer is most common among those aged 15-40.

When caught early, testicular cancer is highly curable, the group says. Despite this, only 22 per cent of Canadian young men feel very confident they’d be able to check their testicles for irregularities, and shockingly, 1 in 4 Canadian young men shared they’ve never checked.

Movember has created Know Thy Nuts – it’s aim is to educate those with testicles to better understand what their normal is, and tuning in to any changes. If something doesn’t feel right the first instinct should be to act immediately and see a doctor.

“Movember wants young men aged 15-35 who are most at risk to know how to get to know their nuts and what to do if they find changes,” said Movember. “Like a lump, swelling or pain. By building stronger awareness and understanding of testicular cancer, and how to know their pair, men are better armed with the info and tools they need to live healthy and longer lives.”

For more information on how to properly check for testicular cancer, those potentially affected are encouraged to visit Movember.com/knowthynuts. Resources for those facing a testicular cancer diagnosis are also available.
