asmith@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Senior Citizens Advisory Committee Foundation is looking for those interested in helping residents make the most of their golden years. Founded in 2002, the foundation’s mission is to help seniors in the community live a healthy, active lifestyle, and they help via funding capital projects throughout the city as they pertain to helping make this a reality, says foundation chair Gord Nott. “This community is full of seniors, and not just at Unison at Veiner Centre,” said Nott. “We’ve been fortunate to be able to help out a lot of smaller projects and organizations over the years, and now we’re making an effort to reach out more to the community.” Nott listed various projects, many within Unison at Veiner Centre, such as the mahjong club, refurbishing some billiards tables, and other various small programs and projects they have helped to make a reality. The foundation is having its Annual General Meeting on March 25, starting at 2 p.m. The meeting will take place in the arts and crafts room at the Veiner Centre, and is open to anyone who is interested in helping with their mission. For those interested in potentially committing to being a board member for the coming year, or simply having an active membership, the deadline for membership applications is Wednesday at 3 p.m. Those interested are asked to call Nott at 403-504-8533 for more details on the application process. “We’ve had, and still have, an excellent board of directors that are really, really committed to our mission of supporting our seniors in the community, and we hope to see more people willing to take that on,” said Nott. 9
