Shooting near Scarborough Town Centre in Toronto injures 12, suspects at large

By Canadian Press on March 8, 2025.

TORONTO — A dozen people were injured after a shooting at a pub near Scarborough Town Centre mall in the city’s east end, Toronto police said Friday night.

Police said they were called to reports of multiple people being shot near Progress Avenue and Corporate Drive at around 10:40 p.m.

Police say six of the injured had gunshot wounds and they sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a suspect wearing a black balaclava was seen fleeing in a silver car and was still at large.

In an early Saturday morning update on X, police said there are three male shooting suspects, and all resources are being deployed to locate and arrest those responsible.

People were being warned to stay away from the area, and Progress Avenue was closed between Ellesmere Road and Highway 401.

A worker at a nearby restaurant told The Canadian Press that she believed the shooting took place at the site of the former Baton Rouge Steakhouse & Bar, previously the Old Scott House restaurant.

Social media posts show a new establishment, Piper Arms Pub, was planning a grand opening Friday at the same location of 520 Progress Ave.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said she had spoken to police Chief Myron Demkiw and was told “all necessary resources” had been deployed.

“This is an early and ongoing investigation – police will provide further details,” she wrote on social media. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
