The 2025 Medicine Hat Rotary Music Festival continues, with junior pianists beginning to make their entrance on Thursday.
Various styles of piano music were performed by young musicians in the Medicine Hat College Recital Hall, all looking to leave their performances even better than how they began. Some are relatively new at their craft, but others, such as 13-year-old Diana Monet, are already nearing their first decade at the pedals at eight years of practice.
“I think I did pretty well today,” said Monet, who performed “Prelude in D Minor WTC II” by Bach for her first class of the day.
She said she feels that she did very well in remembering to push her dynamics and in simply enjoying her piece while she was playing it, but given the chance to do it again, would remember to slow down and not rush.
“I had a few choices for what I wanted to play, but I like this one most because I felt like it was the most interesting,” said Monet. “I just really love how it sounds.”
She said she was grateful for her adjudication by Lynne Dalcin, and that the feedback would be very helpful for her next class, which she would be playing only a few minutes later.
Monet’s father, Meran Monet, expressed how proud he is of his daughter, for her talent and motivation to continue with her lessons.
