Ringette roundup: U10 Mustangs finish season on the road

The Medicine Hat U10 Step 3 Mustangs wrapped up their season over the weekend.

The Mustangs were on the road Sunday at Indus for a pair of games to complete their season against the league-leading Lightning.

In the first contest, the Mustangs scored first and held a tie going into the second half, with goals from Isabelle Perrault, Charlie Lowe and Everley Cross. They ultimately fell short in the second half, losing 7-3. Zoe Aarden stopped 38 shots on net in the loss. Aphten Myram had two assists and both Lowe and Kylee Drever had an assist each.

The Lightning came out strong in the second game, leading early and holding on for the 8-2 win over the Mustangs. Sloan Loehndorf and Lowe scored for Medicine Hat.

The U10 Step 3 Mustangs end their season with an 18-10-2 record with 11 players moving on to U12 next season.

U12

The U12 Medicine Hat Mustangs played their last league games of the season on Saturday in front of a lively home crowd at the Moose, facing the Airdrie Sting.

The first game went back and forth as the teams exchanged goals until the Mustangs pulled ahead with two minutes to go with the game winner by Evangeline Robins, securing a 10-9 victory.

Jorja Sadler led the way with four goals, Evangeline Robins had a pair, Rhya Weinberger, Brinley Cross and Grace Stirling all scored and Dylin Kerluke scored her first of the year, with Eris Davies recording with her first assist of the year). Zayda Dawson was in goal for the first game.

The second game started off with the Sting looking for revenge, leading 8-3. The Mustangs stomped back in the last five minutes with four-unanswered goals and a shot in the final seconds that hit the cross bar, falling 8-7. Grace Stirling was in goal for the Mustangs and Annalise Robins had a hat trick. Sadler scored twice, O’Reilly and Katie-Lee Sehn each scored as well.

The Mustangs are set to play in the Chinook League Regional competition March 21-23 in Calgary to end their season.

U14

The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs finished out session 3 play with a game against Calgary Northwest in Rockyford.

The Mustangs lost 10-6 to Calgary. Dannalee Sawchuk was between the pipes for the game. Breanna Lanuk and Brea Butterfield scored twice, Butterfield added an assist, Kassidy Etienne and Lacey Gibney each scored as well.

Despite the loss, the Mustangs still earned a spot into provincials. They are off until they compete in provincials hosted in Medicine Hat on March 14-16.

U16

The Medicine Hat U16 Mustangs had a thrilling weekend, finishing their playoff playdowns with two victories. The first game of the weekend saw the Mustangs go head-to-head with CSOU16B-1, pulling off a 6-5 victory. Calgary scored with three minutes left in the first half, before Leighton Wright tied the game with 40 seconds left on the clock.

Emma Pinnell stood tall in net to keep the Mustangs within reach. Wright led the charge with a hat trick, Sophie Kerr contributed two goals and both Ravyn Lehr and Aviana Velichko hard-earned win.

Later in the day Sunday, the Mustangs faced CNW-U16B-2 in another high-scoring affair, securing a 10-8 victory. The team’s offensive depth was on full display, with Wright netting four goals and Kerr adding two more. Jordyn Leblanc and Jayna Allchurch, each scored twice to push the Mustangs over the top.

Pinnell again stood tall between the pipes.

The U16 Mustangs are off until provincials, held in Medicine Hat. Their first game of the tournament is set for March 14, 11 a.m. at the Hockey Hounds arena.
