The Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Medicine Hat & District was among the recipients of the 2024 Alberta Blue Cross Community Wellbeing grant that was awarded to 50 community organizations last year.

The grants, worth $1,000 each, will allow Big Brother Big Sister to purchase activity supplies for youth and mentors.

Each year Alberta Blue Cross offers several Community Wellbeing grants to support the diverse work of organizations in the community promoting physical, mental and social wellbeing for Albertans.

“We were overwhelmed last year by the positive response to this program with more than 650 applications from across the province,” says Brian Geislinger, corporate relations and community engagement with Alberta Blue Cross. “So we’re thrilled to be able to continue to provide this support again through 2025.”

The health and wellness program says they are welcoming applications and nominations for urban and rural Alberta-based organizations until April 30.

Alberta Blue Cross is seeking organizations that promote physical, mental or social wellbeing and includes organizations that support newcomers and refugees, seniors, families, vulnerable youth, children, LGBTQ2S+, individuals with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, visible minorities and individuals requiring mental health support.

Alberta Blue Cross launched the grant program in 2023 and it was extended to 50 community organizations in 2024.

A grant application form can be accessed online by visiting community.ab.bluecross.ca and clicking the “Programs” tab.
