Minor Hockey Roundup: U18AA Hounds allow lone goal in pair of weekend victories

The Medicine Hat U18AA Hounds closed out their February slate with a pair of wins.

The Hounds blacked the NWCAA Stamps 3-0 on Saturday before beating the Red Deer Elks 4-1 on Sunday.

Kayne Wright made 39 saves in the shut-out win Saturday, Slate McFadzen, Owen Gustafson and Randen Collier each scored as well.

In Sunday’s win, Parker Kienzle had a goal and an assist, and all three of Davin Torgerson, Collier and Nixon Kunkel scored solo markers. Kolter Gans made 22 saves in the win.

The U18AA Hounds (21-8-0-0-4) host the Wheatland Chiefs on Saturday.

U17

The Medicine Hat U17AAA South East Athletic Club Tigers picked up three of four points in a pair of games.

The Tigers lost 4-3 in overtime Friday to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, bouncing back with a 3-2 win Sunday over the Calgary Royals.

In Friday’s loss, Dane Friedt and Arlo Heal each had a goal and an assist and Kayden Van Jam made 26 saves.

Saturday’s victory saw three Tigers score goals, with Nolan Peppler, Logan Neuls and Taisen Yake each scoring. Carson Jerome made 36 stops.

The U17AAA SEAC Tigers (11-11-0-4-5) host the Calgary Northstars on Saturday and the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday.

U16

Medicine Hat’s U16AA Hounds had a pair of games agains the Red Deer Chiefs over the weekend.

They lost 8-4 on Saturday and fell 10-1 on Sunday, both games at the Kinplex.

Gavin Perry scored twice and both Lincoln Hornung and Cole Hodgins scored in Saturday’s loss, Trenton Wilsonmade 42 saves. Creed Geekie scored the Hounds’ lone goal Sunday, Connor Schmaltz made 39 saves.

The U16AA Hounds (0-32) are in round-robin action starting Thursday with a pair of games, before playing on Friday and Saturday.

U15

The U15AAA SEAC Tigers had just one game, falling 5-1 Saturday to the Calgary Bisons on Saturday.

Macen Ibach scored the Tigers’ lone goal, Jake Druar made 45 saves in the loss.

The U15AAA SEAC Tigers (9-19-0-3-1) will host the Okotoks Oilers on Friday and Saturday.

Medicine Hat’s U15AA SEAC Tigers had a pair of games, falling 4-3 Saturday to the Olds Grizzlys before falling 7-5 Sunday to the Central Alberta Selects.

Cooper Danroth, Liam Jaspers and Beckham Girletz each scored for the Tigers in the loss Saturday, Hunter Munro made 24 stops. In Sunday’s loss, Jaspers had a pair of goals, Conner Hofer had a goal and an assist and both Finn Willerton and Evander Leupold had a goal. Bryden Tschritter made 51 saves.

The U15AA SEAC Tigers (14-15-0-0-5) are into playoffs, starting Saturday in Strathmore.

U13

The U13AA Hounds continued their excellent season with a pair of wins over the weekend.

They beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 9-7 on Friday before topping the West Central Trigers 8-2 on Saturday.

Raylan Johnson had two goals with an assist in Friday’s win, both Teddy Maser and Hudson Gilchrist had a pair of goals. Became Sprunger and Weston Haslbeck each tallied three assists and all three of Ben Rocheleau, Diesel Bishop and Fischer Sprunger had a goal. Dawson Ressler made 29 saves in the win.

Johnson again led the offence Saturday, with another two goal and one assist outing. Haysten Biech had a pair of goals and all four of Haslbeck, Maser, Gilchrist and Bishop had a goal and an assist. Blade Schreiner started the game and made 24 saves.

The U13AA Hounds (30-2) host the East Kootenay Avalanche on Saturday and the Wheatland Braves on Sunday, both games at the Kinplex.
