newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Monday classes were cancelled and students were sent home from St. Francis Xavier School after unexpected issues were reported with the building plumbing, impacting the facility’s overall operations and washrooms. Principal Ryan Irving sent a message to parents Monday asking them to pick up their children from school as soon as possible. “Please know that your child is safe at school right now … pickup can be done through the front office,” reads the note to parents. Students unable to be picked up were able to use facilities at Monsignor McCoy in groups with a staff member. MHCBE says its maintenance team spent the day working to fix the problem and it has been successfully resolved. The division said it would be following up with parents with more details Monday. “We appreciate your understanding as we deal with this unforeseen matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.” The school will be back to full operations with classes resuming this morning. 10
