A six-week online program designed to help skiers stay safe and active during the winter begins tomorrow via a Zoom meeting.

The Ski & Winter Fit course will focus on strength and balance exercises for anyone looking to tackle the slopes with confidence. The class is not just for skiers, and will also focus on balance to stay safe while walking in the snow or on ice.

The online sessions run for one hour every Monday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon, from Feb. 20 until March 31. There are 12 total sessions throughout the course.

Registration is still open. The cost for Veiner Centre members is $64, or $102.40 per two-person household. Non-members can participate in the course for $84.

Paint night

A local artist known for her murals across the city, will host a three-hour paint session teaching residents how to paint a bird.

Paintergirl will be visiting the Veiner Centre on March 4 for an evening of “fun, relaxing” painting where participants will be taught how to paint a cardinal.

Spots are limited for the painting session that will begin at 6 p.m. No experience is necessary. Members can pay $35 to attend the session, and non-members can participate for $40.

Hawaiian Dance

To add a little sunshine to the winter the Unison at Veiner Centre has announced it will host a Hawaiian Dance during the first part of March.

Participants will have the opportunity to embrace Hawaiian culture, as the evening will be “filled with lively music, vibrant dance movies and the spirit of aloha.”

Music will be provided by Dance Man, and there will be a cash bar at the event. Tickets for the Hawaiian Dance can be purchased for $10 (cash only) at the reception desk.

Doors open at 7 p.m. on March 8.

New bus trip

In May the Veiner Centre is hosting a bus trip that will take participants to the Rosebud Theatre School of the Arts, just east of Calgary, to enjoy a performance of “The Foreigner.”

The Veiner Travel Committee has planned the road trip that takes off from the 13th Avenue Co-op location. Riders will be transported to the theatre on a luxury coach. The trip also includes a buffet lunch.

Participants will leave Medicine Hat at 8:30 a.m. on May 14, and return that evening at 6:30 p.m.

There are currently more than 40 spots still available for the trip. Member price is $125, and non-members pay $140.
