asmith@medicinehatnews.com With Family Day coming up quickly, Alberta Blue Cross and Communities ChooseWell are offering some ideas as to how to spend this coming Monday with loved ones. “As we celebrate Family Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to get active and create lasting memories together,” says Matt Leung, program manager, Alberta Recreation & Parks Association. In line with Family Day’s aim to promote the importance of family values, Alberta Blue Cross recommends that no matter if the day is spent indoors or outdoors, it’s spent as a family. Outdoor activities could include exploring the neighbourhood, checking out programs at the local community centre, or putting on some skates at the nearest rink, while those who prefer their quality time indoors could cook a new recipe, plan a family game night, or try volunteering at one of the many organizations within the city, says Alberta Blue Cross. “Alberta Blue Cross is proud to partner with Communities ChooseWell through the Alberta Recreation & Parks Association,” says Narissa Kanji, director of community impact at Alberta Blue Cross. “Together, we are enhancing wellbeing and creating a more vibrant, resilient and healthier community. This Family Day, I’m looking forward to spending time outdoors with my kids and building as many snowmen as we can. And, of course, hot chocolate afterward is a must.” 7
