South Country Co-op has joined forces with four sister organizations to put work into improving the mental wellness of the communities they serve.

Communities in Mind, in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Alberta, is a “movement towards impacting positive change and bringing much needed mental health support to those who need it the most,” said Tessa Cowie, community engagement manager for South Country Co-op.

“The funds that are raised are going directly back into the Alberta communities that we serve,” said Cowie.

The fundraiser initially started during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to help people during what was a low point in mental health for many communities. It initially began with one Co-op, but has since expanded.

“With a provincial goal of $100,000, this campaign will make a significant difference in our province as well as our local communities,” said Cowie. She continued on to add that this collaboration is a “testament to the power and strength of shared values.”

Residents can participate by purchasing a paper heart at South Country Co-op Retail locations, which can be personalized with an inspiring message that will be displayed throughout the campaign.

All funds raised within the South Country Co-op trading area will be distributed back within said trading area, through organizations that support mental health initiatives.

This fundraiser began Monday and will continue until Feb. 28.

“This campaign will be a true reflection of the compassion and generosity of our community members who understand the importance of mental health supports and we are thrilled to be a part of it” said Carmen Hudson, vice president of brand development and facilities, South Country Co-op.
