Lethbridge County has cash available for local projects

By Sam Leishman - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on February 8, 2025.

Applications are now open for organizations within Lethbridge County seeking funding for capital projects, community events and education programs.
The Community Benefit Fund is a partnership between the county and the Stirling Wind Project. Potentia Renewables Inc., the wind project’s parent company, says this fund is part of its commitment to serve the communities surrounding the 14 turbines it operates near the village of Stirling.
“I think this is their way of saying that they realize the potential impacts of these projects on the community and it’s a way for them to show that they care,” says County Reeve Tory Campbell.
Community organizations, registered charities, not-for-profits and schools planning projects and programs that focus on environmental enhancement, social welfare, arts and culture, emergency relief or health and wellness are being encouraged to apply.
Five organizations were awarded funding last year for such projects as a new community hall for the Diamond City Citizens Association and a playground for the St. Catherine’s Home and School Board.
Campbell says there is $10,000 available on an annual basis, which was split evenly between the 2024 recipients.
Campbell adds that it’s great to connect with municipalities in this way and lend support to projects that enhance communities across the county without having to rely on tax dollars. “The more applicants the better. It makes it a lot tougher when it comes time for selection, but I think it’s great if everyone can apply.”
Application packages are available on the county’s website, lethcounty.ca, or at the county’s office at 905 4 Ave S in Lethbridge.
