The Medicine Hat U10 Step 3 Mustangs return from Regina with a medal.
The Step 3 Mustangs were in Regina over the weekend for the Queen City Classic Ringette Tournament, finishing the round robin with a perfect 4-0 record.
Sloan Loehndorf and Charlie Lowe led the charge, each scoring 12 goals over the four games. Avery Fuller added eight goals, while Zoe Aarden netted four. Everley Cross, Blair Dirk, Miriam McClung, Kylee Drever, Jayla-Rae Klaudtv and Kimber Moch each contributed two goals. Rounding out the scoring in the round robin was Aphten Myram, who scored once.
The Mustangs advanced to the semifinals to face the Regina Sharks. Despite the Sharks striking first, the Mustangs responded with a flurry of back-and-forth goals. Loehndorf and Lowe each added two goals and Fuller scored once, tying the game at 5-5 after regulation.
The teams went into sudden-death overtime with the Mustangs shorthanded. Regina won the coin toss and began the play, but the Mustangs quickly intercepted the pass, moved up the ice and Aphten Myram scored the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into overtime, securing the 6-5 victory.
In the gold medal game, the Mustangs faced the undefeated Winnipeg Wildfire. Lowe and Loehndorf scored for Medicine Hat as Wildfire ultimately came out on top.
The U10 Step 1 Mustangs hosted Airdrie for a pair of games Sunday at the Moose Rec Centre.
In the first game, Ashlee Dupuis started in net and Harper Schuh was between the pipes for the second half. Teagan Forsyth scored three times earning the player of the game ring. Brielle St. Laurent also scored three times and both Adelyn Morvik and Addison Clegg each scored twice.
In the second game, Thea Pancoast was in net to start and Briar Gobin took over for the second half. Morvik scored twice and both St. Laurent and Dupuis each scored.
U12
The Medicine Hat U12 Mustangs also played at the Queen City Classic tournament in Regina, competiting against 13 other U12 teams from across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Mustangs finished first in their pool with a perfect 4-0 record. They beat the Regina Yeti 8-6 to open the tournament Thursday, with Annalise Robins leading the offence with a hat trick. Evangeline Robins and Brinley Cross each scored a pair and Annabelle O’Reilly had a solo tally.
They faced the Regina Cobras in the second game, pulling out a 3-2 win. Annalise Robins, Evangeline Robins and Jorja Sadler each scored.
On Friday, they beat the Saskatoon Ignite 8-1. Cross scored four times, O’Reilly had a pair of tallies and all three of Annalise Robins, Evangeline Robins and Katie-Lee Sehn each scored.
They ended the round robin with a 6-4 victory against the Regina Badgers. Arika McDowall and Annalise Robins had two goals each and all three of Cross, Sadler and O’Reilly scored as well.
Grace Stirling was between the pipes for the majority of the tournament, with Zayda Dawson taking the role during the win over the Ignite.
During the semifinals on Sunday, the Mustangs experienced their first loss of the tournament, falling 7-3 to the eventual tournament champions Regina Black Widows. McDowall scored twice and Evangeline Robins scored once.
The Mustangs moved on to the bronze medal game where the Regina Cobras got their revenge, beating Medicine Hat 5-4. Evangeline Robins scored twice, Sadler and Cross each scored a goal.
The Mustangs are in action ion Feb. 16 for double header against Cochrane.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs played a double header against Bow View on Saturday. The Mustangs lost the first game 8-3. Lacey Gibney had a goal and an assist, both Kassidy Etienne and Ally Martin each had a goal.
The Mustangs also came up short in the second game, falling 5-4.
Goals were scored by Etienne with a pair of markers, Brea Butterfield and Gibney each scored as well.
Jacqueline LeBlanc and Dannalee Sawchuk shared the time between the pipes.
