A Medicine Hat man was charged with new allegations of selling stolen goods as he appeared in court to be sentenced on house-breaking charges Thursday at Court of Justice in Medicine Hat.

Shane Harvey Yanke, 48, was scheduled for a docket appearance for sentencing in two housebreaking incidents dating to early 2023.

He had previously pleaded guilty, but the matter was adjourned as Crown prosecutors presented two new sets of charges laid by RCMP detachments in Redcliff and Bow Island.

Each features a charge of trafficking in the proceeds of crime valued above $5,000, and prosecutors declared the matters will proceed by the more serious way of indictment.

A conviction could carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Yanke is currently in custody at Medicine Hat Remand Centre and will next appear in docket court Feb. 5.
