Pat was active in the Redcliff community, involved in Girl Guides, was a Brownie leader, taught Sunday School, babysat regularly, and loved caring for her baby brother, Jack. She worked at Dominion Glass in Redcliff, followed by a banking position in Medicine Hat until her marriage. After meeting at a square dance in Redcliff, she married Clarence on October 6th, 1962, and became a farm wife in the Schuler area. Many a day was spent running warm meals to Clarence and the boys in the fields during the long summer days. She also quickly earned her apprenticeship in grain truck driving, cow chasing, and tending to chickens, hogs, and dogs. Gardening was also a passion, producing a large, beautiful, and bountiful vegetable garden every year. Pat was also known for her delicious farm meals, especially her homemade buns, bread, chocolate chip cookies, and pickles. Pat and Clarence raised their sons, Mark and David, in the farm life, nurturing them through the years and instilling in them strong Christian values. Pat and Clarence retired to Medicine Hat in 1987 but continued to be actively involved with the farm and family. After Clarence’s early passing in 1993, Pat continued as the matriarch of her family. Pat loved and was dearly loved by all her grandchildren, forming many special memories throughout her life with each grandchild. Pat also had a unique skill for writing beautiful poems for family occasions. These poems remain cherished keepsakes. Pat was also a passionate and gifted photographer; her grandchildren and prairie and grain field landscapes were her favorite subjects. Pat was faithful throughout her Christian walk, beginning with her family in Redcliff at St. Ambrose, continuing with Clarence and family at the Church of God in Schuler, and then at Temple Baptist Church in Medicine Hat.

FRANCES HANCOCK
FRANCES HANCOCK
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Hancock at the Carmel Hospice on January 27, 2025, at the age of 100, after a brief illness. She is survived by: her 3 sons, George (Mera & family), Doug (Elaine & family) and Harry (Laura & family): her 4 grandsons, Stephen, Todd, Michael and Darren (and their mother Carolyn), and by 2 great grandsons Levi and James. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (Cissy).
She is predeceased by her husband Nat, brother Harry and sisters Lucy and Marion. Born on Dec 2, 1924, in Maple Creek, she is the oldest of 5 children. The family lost their mother when Frances was 6 years old, and she was raised by her maternal grandparents and aunt. She married Nat on Dec 2,1949 and they set off on their life journey. That journey took her through being a bookkeeper, life on the farm, owning a confectionery in Maple Creek, owning a grocery store in Prelate, owning a grocery store in Duchess, working for Orville at the Crossroads and finally to retirement in Maple Creek. Later in retirement, she moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to family, and since 2017 she resided in Meadowlands retirement home.
She worked hard her entire life, and never shied away from a job that needed to be done. She was also a very kind and caring woman, and has had a great circle of many good friends, each one of them very cherished. She very much enjoyed her teas and card parties with all her friends throughout the years.
She loved animals, and was never without a cat or a dog, or 3 cats and 4 dogs. We often marveled at how any stray dog or cat in the vicinity always migrated to mom’s house and ended up having a lifelong home. She also loved nature and gardening, and grew some of the best tomatoes ever tasted.
She was a committed member of the Rebecca’s Lodge, for many years, as well as the ACW and many other organizations she belonged to. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. She passed peacefully with family by her side, and will be fondly remembered.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 1st, 2025 at 2:00PM at the St. Mary The Virgin Anglican Church 302 Jasper St, Maple Creek, SK.
