BARRY ALLAN BERNHARDT

BARRY ALLAN BERNHARDT Barry Allan Bernhardt, 73, passed away at home on January 23, 2025 after a battle with prostate cancer. Barry’s passing is mourned by son Benjamin Bernhardt (mother Kari), partner Louanna MacLeod, and sister Calen Bernhardt. He is also survived by daughter in law Joanna Bernhardt, grandchildren Warner Bernhardt, Holden Bernhardt, Søren Bernhardt (father Nathan), and Isobel Bernhardt (mother Salena). Barry was predeceased by parents Joseph and Margaret.
Barry grew up in Foremost, Alberta on his parents’ farm. He studied a year at Briercrest Bible College. While working towards a BSc from the University of Calgary he ran the Foremost Insurance Agency. Barry earned an LLB from the University of Windsor. He moved back to Alberta to article and practice law in Calgary at Bennett Jones LLP.
He retired to Medicine Hat where he reconnected with family members, made new friends, rode motorbikes, and learned to drum and play the accordion. He was also a poet and authored three novels (available online). He made friends in English and Spanish in the over 50 countries he travelled to.
A remembrance of Barry will take place at the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Hall on Wednesday, January 29 between 2 and 5 pm.

DONNA RAE SYVERSON May 11, 1947 January 25, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Donna Rae Syverson on January 25, 2025, in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 77 years. Donna was a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend whose kindness and warmth touched everyone who knew her. Donna was born on May 11, 1947, in Claresholm, Alberta. She spent much of her childhood living on the farm and getting into mischief with her brother and sister. She eventually settled in Redcliff and Medicine Hat, where she met her husband, Gary. Some of Donna’s best memories were when she and Gary lived in Tuscan, AZ, New Orleans, LA, and Mobile, AL. They enjoyed many adventures in the South, discovering new places and meeting new friends. Throughout her life, Donna has brought joy and laughter to all those around her. She never shied away from making new friends or chatting up a stranger. She was always the last to leave the party and would never turn down a glass of wine. Donna loved life. Her humour and personality were with her right to the end. Her kind spirit and warm smile will remain forever in our hearts. Donna is lovingly remembered by her two children, Shawn (Lyndsay) Syverson of Calgary, AB, and Dana (Colin) Telfer of Carp, ON. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to her grandchildren, Keanan, Blake, Ava, Kyla, and Colby, and her grand puppy, Jax, who brought immense joy to her life. Donna also leaves behind her beloved big brother, William (Bill) Peta, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who were dear to her. Donna was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Gary Syverson; her mother, Gunda Peta, and her sister, Caroline Granlin. Donna’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and laughter. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A Celebration of Life will take place in the summer. KENDRA SHEARER


1964 ~ KENDRA SHEARER ~ 2025 Kendra Rose Shearer passed on January 21, 2025, at the age of 60 years. She is survived by her mother, Rose; her brother, Darren (Tina); and her children, Kyler, Nolan (Courtney), and Trista (Rob); as well as her nephew, Rease (Dakota) and niece, Keana. She was predeceased by her father, Alvin. Her legacy will live on through her granddaughters, Kloee and Quinn. Kendra was passionate about the arts; acting, singing and handmade crafts kept her busy. A gifted cook and baker, she was always making people food. Her love of animals and nature was inspiring. She found comfort and community in her faith. Rest easy knowing her pain has passed, and she is now with the Lord.
