The Medicine Hat U19 Mustangs made good of their final tournament of the season.
The Mustangs took first place at the Esso Golden Ring tournament hosted in Calgary.
They started out the weekend with a pair of bloated wins Friday over Calgary South 1 and Calgary Bow View 1.
On Saturday they beat Calgary NW 3 in their last round robin game, finishing atop the pool.
They faced Airdrie Sting 1 in a cross-over game, pulling off another win to punch their ticket to the semifinals against South Calgary 1. The Mustangs beat South Calgary 1 6-1, putting themselves in the finals against the Buffalo Plain Blitz.
The Mustangs took the gold with a 4-3 win over Buffalo Plains. All 14 skaters got on the score sheet for the Mustangs, with seven skaters (Hannah Thompson, Ava Allchurch, Pacie Harper, Sophie Kerr, Ryleigh Jackiw, Erika Want and Kasey Martin) among the top-20 in tournament scoring.
The Mustangs allowed only eight goals against all tournament, with Kyree Stern-Rebmann standing tall in net, notching a shut-out win along the path to gold.
The Mustangs are in action this weekend as they Calgary NW 1 at the Moose Recreation Centre on Sunday in a double header at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Those games will determine who will win the Chinook League banner.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs travelled to Lethbridge on Saturday for a double header.
The Mustangs fell short by a score of 6-5 in the first game. Breanna Lanuk scored twice, Haven Ward and Kassidy Etienne each had a goal and an assist and Brea Butterfield had a solo tally.
In the second game against Lethbridge, the Mustangs lost 6-4. Lanuk scored all four goals, Lacey Gibney had an assist. Jacqueline LeBlanc was between the pipes for both games.
The U14 Mustangs will head to Strathmore this weekend for the Laurie Ruppe Tournament.
U10
The U10 Step 3 Mustangs hosted Rockyford on Saturday in a double header.
The Mustangs took game one in front of a full crowd, beating Rockford 6-2.
Avery Fuller was between the pipes on the win.
Sloan Loehndorf had tow goals with an assist, and Charlie Lowe had two goals as well in the win. Lexi Aldred and Isabelle Perrault tallied one each, with Perrault also recording an assist.
Miriam McClung, Zoe Aarden, Lexxon Martinez, and Kylee Drever, each with one, and Perrault with two.
The Mustangs came out strong in the second game, winning 14-1.
Loehndorf had three goals and three assists, Lowe had three goals and two assists and Fuller tallied a hat trick as well. Perrault scored two goals. Aarden had a goal and two assists, Fallyn Weeks and Aphten Myram each put one in net.
The Step 3 Mustangs head to Regina for tournament action starting January 31st.
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs had a pair of games against Strathmore over the weekend.
They lost the first game 10-6. Ridley Trotter was in net, Nora Dunn recorded a hat trick, Hudson Keluke had a pair and Gabby O’Reilly had a solo tally.
They also dropped the second game, falling 7-3 to Strathmore.
O’Reilly was in net, Dunn scored twice and Laila Loehndorf found the back of the net.
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs are back in action on Feb. 8 for a pair of games at Lethbridge against the Rattlers.
Medicine Hat’s U10 Step 1 Mustangs had a pair of games against Lethbridge.
Ashley Dupuis and Thea Pancoast split duties in net. Adelyn Morvik scored five times, both Kylie Klaudt and Brielle St. Lauren scored twice and both Teagan Forsyth and Harper Schuh scored as well.
Schuh and Forsyth split the duties in net. St. Laurent and Klaudt each scored four times, Dupuis tallied a hat trick. Morvik scored a solo tally.
Open
The Medicine Hat Open Smash played in a four-team round robin on Sunday in Bassano.
The Smash won the opener against the Calgary Tigers 7-4, winning the second game over the Lethbridge Rattlers 7-5 and tied the Calgary Excel 6-6.
Scoring for Smash over three games was Mahala St Jacques with seven goals, Alyssa Stinnissen, Kayty Leidal and Allison Mason with three goals each, Paige Schreiber with a pair, and singles tallied by Dee Karamanos, Abby Haney and Hope Boychuk.
The goalies for Smash were Tyler Leidal and Mark Fisher.
It was a weekend setting the Smash on the path to the locally held provincials on March 15-17.
Next up for Smash is two games in Calgary vs CORA opponents Avalanche and Absolut on Jan. 25 and then a double header vs CORA Blaze on Jan. 26, again in Bassano.
