TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are adding a big-name free-agent slugger to their lineup.
A team source tells The Canadian Press the club has agreed to terms with Anthony Santander on a contract and a physical has been completed.
The Blue Jays have yet to issue a release on the signing, but ESPN reports it’s a five-year contract worth over US$90 million.
Santander hit 44 home runs and drove in 102 runs last season for the Baltimore Orioles.
The addition of the 30-year-old switch-hitter should provide a much-needed injection of power in the heart of the batting order.
Toronto had offensive struggles last year en route to a 74-88 record and last-place finish in the American League East.
