MERLE HALKO
MERLE HALKO 1943 – 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Merle Halko, who left us peacefully on January 5, 2025, in Medicine Hat. Merle was born on October 12, 1943, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, to Rebecca and Sam Jesse. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Merle was preceded in death by her husband Peter, dear brothers, Gary, and Ivan. She is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie (Glenn) Pottle and her devoted son, Ward Halko, along with her treasured granddaughter, Jessica (Ray-Al) Hochman, and her cherished grandson, Jordan (Carlyn) Hood. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her great grandchildren Decker, Cabella, Titan, and Arrow. Merle was immensely proud of her family and found joy in every moment spent with them.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, particularly those on the fourth floor (west), for their compassionate care during Merle’s final days.
