sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat U19 Mustangs remain atop the Chinook League with a winning Saturday on the road. The Mustangs beat the Calgary Bow View-3 9-1, making good on a 5-0 lead at the half. Pacie Harper and Hannah Thompson each had two goals, Sophie Kerr had a goal and three assists and four skaters, Erika Want, Jordy Provost, Ava Allchurch and Mackenzie Tindall all added goals. Karly Stennick had two assists and Kyrie Stern-Rebmann stood tall in net, just missing her bid for the shutout. They carried the momentum into the second game Saturday, beating the Calgary Bow View-2 7-3 after leading 4-2 at the half. Thompson had a pair of goals, the other five Mustang goals were scored by Harper, Sophie Karr, Ryleigh Jackiw, Allchurch and Stennick. Stern-Rebmann tallied another win in net. With the wins, the U19 Mustangs remain first in the Chinook League with a 14-0 record. They’re in action this weekend at the Calgary Esso Golden Ring tournament, with play starting Friday. U16 The U16 Mustangs split a weekend of games against Calgary NW. They dropped the first game, falling 8-5. Avi Velichko led the scoring effort for the Mustangs with a hat trick. Sutton Provost added two goals to round out the offence. They rebounded in the second game, beating Calgary NW 11-7, with Velichko recording a second hat trick of the day. Margot Kerr also scored a hat trick, Ravyn Lehr found the back of the net twice. The Mustangs also had offence from Provost, Madison Helgeson and Leighton Wright, each scoring a solo tally. Emma Pinnell was between the pipes for the win. The U16 Mustangs are off until Jan. 25 when they host South Calgary for a pair of games at the Moose Rec Centre. U14 The Medicine Hat U14 Mustangs played a double header against Calgary Northwest at the Moose Rec Center on Saturday. The Calgary Northwest took the first game 8-5. Kassidy Etienne scored twice, Breanna Lanuk, Ally Martin and Brea Butterfield each found the back of the net. Jacquline LeBlanc was between the pipes. The Mustangs bounced back with a win in the second game, beating Calgary Northwest 7-5. Lanuk tallied a hat trick, Gibney scored twice and both Etienne and Butterfield scored as well. Dannalee Sawchuk was in net. The Mustangs will play next in Lethbridge on Saturday. U12 The U12B Mustangs were in action on Sunday at home after a Christmas break, taking on the Indus Thunder Minions in an exhibition double header. The Mustangs, making post-holiday changes, lost 8-3. Rhya Weinberger, Annabelle O’Reilly and Annalise Robins each scored, Brinley Cross had two assists. In the second game, the Mustangs settled into new positions, winning 5-4. Jorja Sadler scored twice, O’Reilly, Annalise Robins and Cross each scored a solo marker. Maddie McDonald had two helpers. Zayda Dawson was in net for both games. The Mustangs are in action again on Jan. 26 on the road in Lethbridge. During the Christmas break on Dec. 30 and 31, three of the U12 Mustangs played in a 3-on-3 Tournament hosted by the Central Alberta Sting in Blackfalds. Weinberger, Annalise Robins and Evangeline Robins played for Team Blue with other U12-14 players from La Glace, Lacombe and Red Deer. Team Blue went 3-0 in the round robin and were the champions of the tournament defeating Team Yellow. The three Mustangs represented the city well, scoring a combined nine goals in the tournament. 28
