newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat College is seeking nominations for this year’s recipient of its honorary applied degree that will be presented during convocation this spring. The college is accepting applications until the end of January and is looking to recognize an outstanding citizen who exemplifies community contribution. “Our region thrives thanks to the contributions of many people who share their knowledge, passion and energy,” states an online post. Considerable traits for a nominee include achievement and distinction in scholarship, the advancement of learning, welfare and social responsibility, creativity and innovation, enterprise and public service. Last year Nichole Neubauer was named recipient of the honorary degree in recognition of her commitment to agriculture, education and the community. After a year of accolades and achievement, the News also named Neubauer ‘Newsmaker of the Year’ for 2023, noting her promotion and education of agriculture in the region. Candidates who accept an honorary degree are asked to address the convocation ceremony that is planned for June 13. Nominations can be made until Jan. 31 online by visiting the college’s website and clicking on the ‘Student Life’ tab. 9
