Tracey Hensel, currently serving the role as acting superintendent for the Medicine Hat Public School Division, has been officially appointed as new superintendent, effective in the new year.
Hensel has for the past six months been serving as acting superintendent following the departure of Mark Davidson during the summer.
According to a press release from MHPSD, Hensel has “already demonstrated exceptional leadership and a profound commitment to our success. Her extensive experience as an educator, combined with her strong leadership skills, will guide our division into a bright future.”
Board of trustees chair Catherine Wilson says Hensel was the ideal candidate for the position following a comprehensive consultation process with eight stakeholders.
“Tracy demonstrates remarkable communication skills, her keen ability to forge and foster positive relationships have been instrumental in advancing the division’s universal goals,” said Wilson. “Her collaborative leadership approach, along with her commitment to equity, inclusion and student success, align perfectly with the vision for the division.
“She is passionate about creating welcoming, caring and safe learning environments for all.”
Confident she will continue to offer exceptional public education opportunities, Hensel says she is honoured and excited to be appointed as the new permanent superintendent.
“I am eager to build upon a strong foundation to create a bright future for the students we serve and the staff who guide them. I am committed to working collaboratively with our board, dedicated staff, supportive parents and engaged community members to achieve our universal goals,” says Hensel.
Hensel will continue her role as acting superintendent until the official appointment takes effect Jan. 1.
