Law enforcement agencies join forces to support torch run

The Lethbridge Police Service and other southern Alberta law enforcement agencies have partnered with the Lethbridge Mayor Magrath Drive South Boston Pizza for “Cops, Pops and Pizza.”
The event supporting Lethbridge’s annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) happens this Friday, starting at 4 p.m. and running until 8 p.m.at 2041 Mayor Magrath South.
Last year LPS raised $5,100 and has hopes of surpassing this amount at this year’s celebration.
The K-9 Unit and Tactical Team, Alberta Sheriff’s, RCMP, Coaldale and District Municipal Enforcement, and peace officers from surrounding rural communities will all be in attendance at the charity event.
According to the LPS, there will be police vehicles on display, officers helping with sales of stuffies, and collecting of donations for the Special Olympics.
Due to the Lethbridge Hurricanes Teddy Bear Toss also happening that night, LPS is inviting the community to stop by Boston Pizza for a slice of pizza and to purchase their stuffy to throw on the ice.
You can purchase a Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or German Shepherd stuffies for $20 each. Card and Cash payments are available on site, as well as on the LPS website, where you can scan a QR code and have the plushy delivered right to your doorsteps.
Each K-9 includes an embroidered safety vest with the Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run Logo and a metal coloured enamel LETR collar tag.
“We’ve been selling teddy bears for quite some time as our main fundraiser for the Special Olympics”, says Constable Braylon Hyggen of the LPS K-9 unit.
All proceeds will be going towards the Special Olympics Alberta sports programs and their athletes.
“Have dinner, support the Special Olympics, grab a teddy bear and head to the teddy bear toss,” said Hyggen who led a media event Wednesday morning.
“It’s a great and fun night”.
